Chapter Nine
âCome outside. Iâm sure you will adore the queenâs water garden.â
Aliza followed Jaako down a hallway with high arching ceilings and intricately carved façades, until they came to a doorway that slid open and revealed acres upon acres of manicured gardens. The sight of it almost took her breath away.
Aliza wasnât really a girl who got too excited about getting a bouquet of roses, but she liked a nice park. This place was beyond her wildest imagination. The alien vegetation was trimmed and planted alongside stone pathways that curved around clear blue ponds full of bright red fish.
Flowers of every color and size bloomed right and left and above. A canopy of glowing silver vegetation hung over them as they stepped under an arching pagoda. They came to a shallow pool with a fountain at the center and large round rocks just under the surface. The fountain splashed water across the surface, creating a design of ripples through out the water.
Jaako led her to a cushioned bench and sat down with her there. âSo, tell me, Aliza. What do you enjoy most in life?â he asked in an amiable tone.
âCoding. Winning. Money. Gaming. That kind of thing.â
She looked at his devilishly handsome face and saw his lips quiver just outside of frowning. âWhat do you like?â
âIâm a warlord. I enjoy commanding my armada.â
âThat sounds fun. What do you like best about it? Is it the strategy?â
He let out a low growl and put on a forced smile. âDonât you enjoy pretty dresses and parties?â
âDresses and parties? Ha. No. One: I never wear dresses. Two: I hate parties. Donât like talking to people in person. Thatâs another thing. I donât really like people much either.â
He heaved a heavy sigh. âAliza. You are the strangest female I have ever met. Do you at least like children? Babies?â
âMeh. I havenât thought about it much. Iâm only twenty four. Iâve got time for that later. Right now, I just want to code, game, win, and make money. Speaking of money. You werenât kidding about the million Earth dollars?â
âIâm sure it could be arranged, but donât you want to know more about Emadria?â
âNot really. I know I have to stay here for a while to get my money. But I am already pretty sure that Iâm not going to want to stay, even if your tech is freaking epic. Iâm just not cut out to be an Emadrian woman.â
âAliza. Emadrian women are cherished and held in the highest regard. A man never forces a woman into anything; she willingly chooses to follow him. Women are not expected to work or toil. They should lead lives of beauty so they can nurture their young.â
âSorry. I think we are pretty much done here.â
âYou will be queen!â
âThat doesnât mean anything if I canât do what I do.â
âPerhaps this will change your mind,â he said, enfolding her in his arms.
Aliza gasped as he pulled her body close to his and planted his lips on hers. She grabbed his impossibly big shoulders, ready to resist, but instantly melted.
